What is Estarylla Birth Control Pills?

Estarylla is a combination oral contraceptive pill (cOCP, birth control medication, birth control pills). It prevents pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation), and thickening the cervical mucus, blocking sperm from getting into the uterus and getting to the egg. Estarylla is also prescribed to: treat acne, reduce the risk of ovarian cysts (as in polycystic ovarian syndrome [PCOS]), treat painful or heavy periods, and more. Read More

How to use Estarylla

Estarylla is super easy to use. Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. Many women find that taking Estarylla before bedtime or just after their evening meal helps reduce nausea and other side effects. After taking 21 days of white active pills, you’ll switch to seven peach-colored ones. These are inactive pills with no hormones that are there to get you in the habit of taking your pill every day. The use of Estarylla is the same if you are using the medication either to prevent pregnancy, treat acne, reduce PCOS symptoms, or periods cramps.

Estarylla Dosage

Estarylla uses a blend of two hormones, Norgestimate 0.25mg (progesterone) and Ethinyl Estradiol 0.035mg (estrogen).

Benefits of Estarylla

Estarylla Side Effects

The risks are very low, but some women have experienced unwanted side effects when taking Estarylla. Minor ones include breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, swollen feet or ankles, and slightly elevated blood pressure or blood sugar levels. Positive side effects are also a possibility, too — reduced acne, fewer mood swings, and other perks are fairly common.

The chances of serious side effects are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented. Symptoms include heart disease, blood clotting, shortness of breath, migraines, vision problems, slurred speech, confusion, and fainting. Those who wear contacts or are nearsighted may notice vision problems as well.

These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW EFFECTIVE IS ESTARYLLA BIRTH CONTROL?

Estarylla is as effective as any other birth control pill. Birth control pills are 99.7% effective if PERFECTLY used (in a research study) and 93% effective in “regular use” (when real people use it and mess up every now and then).

IS ESTARYLLA THE SAME AS SPRINTEC?

Yes, both medications have the same active ingredients (Norgestimate 0.25mg and Ethinyl Estradiol 0.035mg).

ANY OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ESTARYLLA?

As with any new prescription, you should go over anything you’re already taking with your Doctor before starting on Estarylla. This includes recreational drugs, over-the-counter meds, and even herbal supplements. Even something as relatively harmless as St. John’s wort can cause Estarylla to be less effective at preventing pregnancy. There are certain meds you should absolutely bring up. These are aromatase inhibitors, cancer medications, HIV drugs, seizure medicines, and those used for chronic hepatitis C.

IS ESTARYLLA A GOOD BIRTH CONTROL?

Esterylla is a good birth control pill. The progestin in it is one of the good ones in that, it has low androgenicity (meaning fewer male hormone side effects such as acne, and munchies).

HOW MUCH IS ESTARYLLA WITHOUT INSURANCE?

If you choose to pay out-of-pocket, Estarylla is quite affordable since it’s a generic brand, as low as $16 per pack when ordering 3 packs or more. You can also save by choosing one of several other Estarylla generics, such as Mono-Linyah, Previfem, Norgestimate Ethinyl Estradiol, Femynor, Mononessa, Sprintec, Mili.
