How to use Beyaz

How to use Beyaz

Beyaz is very easy to use!

Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. Most women find that taking Beyaz before bedtime or with your largest meal of the day helps reduce nausea and other side effects. It is recommended to take your first active pill the first Sunday after your period begins.

After taking 24 days of active pills, you’ll switch to 4 inactive pills. These are reminder pills with no hormones that exist to keep you in the habit of taking your pill every day. These seven tablets do have ferrous fumarate to prevent anemia from the blood loss with monthly bleeds.

If you do miss one active pill , take two pills as soon as you remember. Then, continue to take one active pill for the rest of the pill pack. If you miss two active pills in a row take two pills per day for two days. However, if you miss three active pills in a row, do not take the missed pills. Instead you should use back up birth control for at least 7 days. Note that you may experience some bleeding or spotting if you miss three pills in a row.

Remember that Beyaz and other hormone based birth control cannot be used to prevent HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases. In order to prevent STDs, always use condoms when having sexual intercourse.

Beyaz Dosage

Beyaz Dosage

Beyaz birth control pills have two main active ingredients: Drosperinone 3mg (progesterone) and Ethinyl Estradioal 20 mcg (estrogen). This medication also blends 0.45 mg Levomefolate Calcium in the inactive or placebo pills as well.

Beyaz Side Effects

Beyaz Side Effects

Beyaz side effects are unlikely, but if they do occur they are generally mild and get better over time. Some women report things like nausea, headaches, blurred vision, breast tenderness, or changes in blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Women who are breast feeding should not take Beyaz because it may decrease breast milk production.

Some women ALSO report beneficial effects like decreased acne, lighter periods, and a more stable mood!

Serious side effects are extremely rare, but may include an increased risk of blood clots.Blood clots can get trapped in the heart, lungs, or brain, leading to rare but serious medical issues like heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or stroke. Women who smoke are at a much greater risk of this happening. If you smoke and want to take birth control pills, tell your doctor and find a way to quit for good.

Beyaz Warnings

Beyaz Warnings

Do NOT take this medication if:

  • You have any health conditions that predispose you to hyperkalemia (i.e. renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and adrenal insufficiency) = kidney problems (not infections).
  • You currently have or have had any of these health problems: blood clots, blood clotting problem, breast cancer, uterine cancer, heart attack, stroke, heart disease, chest pain, high blood pressure, liver disease, liver tumor, migraine with aura, or diabetes with neuropathy or any diabetic complications.
  • You are allergic to ethinyl estradiol.
  • You are taking ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir (with or without dasabuvir).
  • You are pregnant or may be pregnant.
  • You are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Pandia Health’s expert birth control doctors suggest that if you are going on a plane ride longer than 3 hrs, consider taking a baby aspirin or ibuprofen (assuming you don’t have any kidney problems) 30 minutes before the flight (to thin your blood) and then drink water, walk around, during the flight to decrease your risk of blood clots.

The FDA has warned that drospirenone-containing pills may be associated with a higher risk of blood clots compared to other birth control pills.

What is Beyaz?

Beyaz is a type of oral contraceptive or birth control pill that contains a combination of three ingredients: drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate calcium

. Drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol are synthetic versions of female hormones. Together, they prevent the release of an egg from an ovary, thicken your cervical mucus, and change your uterine lining (endometrium). These changes make it harder for sperm to reach an egg and harder for a fertilized egg to implant into the uterus. The other compound in Beyaz, called levomefolate calcium, is a B vitamin. This helps prevent birth defects if a pregnancy happens shortly after a woman stops taking Beyaz or if a pregnancy occurs while a woman is still taking Beyaz (which is rare). Your doctor can also prescribe Beyaz to treat moderate acne if you’re older than 14 and have started your period, or if you experience symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Dr. Sophia Yen, Pandia Health Co-Founder/CEO and young adult medicine specialist, does NOT advise women under 30 to take birth control pills containing low doses of estrogen, like Beyaz. Young women need enough estrogen to protect bone health. If you’re under 30, stronger versions of Beyaz, like Yasmin or its generics, could be more appropriate for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Beyaz is unlikely to cause weight gain. Some women actually lose weight because Beyaz birth control can have a mild diuretic effect, although any weight lost is typically retained water and not actually body fat.

One of our Patient Care Advisors or licensed physicians will always review the medications and supplements you’re currently taking before prescribing Beyaz. Certain drugs (recreational, herbal, over-the-counter, or prescription) can interact with Beyaz and make it less effective at preventing pregnancy. Drugs that may interact with Beyaz include HIV drugs, anti-seizure drugs, antibiotics, and even herbal supplements like St. John’s wort.

Women who have certain risk factors like high blood pressure or take medications to control blood pressure should not take Beyaz. Our Pandia Health medical team recommends other options including progestin-only pill (POPs), IUDs with hormone (Mirena, Liletta, Kyleena, Skyla), copper IUDs, implants (nexplanon), the birth control shot (depo-provera), or condoms and spermicide.

Beyaz has a mild diuretic effect, which means it can make you pee and put you at an increased risk of dehydration. Drink plenty of water while taking Beyaz. If you have certain health conditions like chronic kidney disease, liver disease, or Addison’s disease, you shouldn’t use Beyaz, Yaz, or its equivalents.

Hormone-based birth control like Beyaz might not be right for you depending on your medical history. If you have a history of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or other medical conditions, let one of our Patient Care Advisors know. We’ll help you select a good alternative.

You might be allergic to an ingredient in Beyaz if you experience symptoms like dizziness, itchiness, or a skin rash. It’s extremely unlikely, but serious allergic reactions may occur. If you experience trouble breathing or swelling of the lips and tongue, call 911 immediately.

It’s easy to get Beyaz at just about any pharmacy near you with a doctor’s prescription. Concerned about your privacy? Our doctor-founded, doctor-led team at Pandia Health is happy to connect you with a licensed physician who can help you get you Beyaz or any other birth control you need, discreetly and conveniently.

If you don’t have insurance, Beyaz is an expensive option since is a brand name and there is no generic brand equivalent. If choosing to pay out of pocket for it, the price per pack is $253.

Beyaz makes temporary changes in your reproductive system that prevent pregnancy. To use, just take one pill every 24 hours and at the same time every day. You take an active pill 24 days in a row, and then take an inactive/placebo pill 4 days in a row. Placebo pills don’t contain hormones, but they help you stay in the habit of taking your pill daily (they also contain vitamin B).

Beyaz can be taken on an empty stomach, but some women find that taking it with a meal prevents nausea.

It’s not true that Beyaz causes infertility. If you’re taking Beyaz and want to have a baby, talk to your doctor and then stop taking the medication. Normal fertility should return within one or two menstrual cycles after your last pill. Dr. Yen explains more about birth control and infertility in this video. Watch to learn more!

Yaz has 4 days of placebo pills (sugar pills) while Beyaz has 4 days with folic acid after the 24 active pills.

Beyaz is an expensive name brand birth control pill at ~$256 per pack. You can save money by choosing a generic equivalent (same dosage, same active ingredients) such as Drospirenone Ethinyl Estradiol Levomefolate 3mg-0.02-0.451mg for $59 per pack.
