What is Camila Birth Control Pills?

Camila is a Progesterone Only Pill (POP) (oral contraceptive pill, OCP, birth control medication, birth control pill). This hormonal birth control works to prevent pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucus which blocks the sperm from getting into the uterus and creating a fertilized egg and by thinning the uterine lining (endometrium) such that if the egg/sperm hook up, there’s nowhere to stick and grow. Camila can also be prescribed to treat menstrual disorders caused by hormonal imbalance or endometriosis. Read More

How to Use Camila

Camila birth control is super easy to use.

Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. You take a pill every day. Unlike many combined oral contraceptives there are no sugar/placebo pills (inactive pills) with Camila or other POPs (Progesterone Only Pills). It is important to know that this medication requires that you take them at the SAME TIME every day. This contraceptive method is not a good match for people who struggle with medication management.

If you are late by 3 hours, you will need emergency contraception (if you had unprotected heterosexual intercourse [sex] in the past 5 days) and to abstain from sex for the next 48 hrs to avoid unintended pregnancy. Remember that oral contraceptives cannot prevent STDs, always use a barrier method of protection such as condoms to prevent HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases.

Camila Dosage

Camila birth control pills have only one main active ingredient, Norethindrone [0.35 mg].

Benefits of Camila

  • Periods get lighter. If your normal cycle is usually 7 days, your menstrual period should decrease to about 5 days. If you use 5 pads/tampons a day, it goes down to 3.
  • Can be used to menstrual disorders like endometriosis or abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by hormone imbalance.
  • Is the safest birth control pill for those women who: are breastfeeding, have high blood pressure, have migraines with aura, or have hypertension.

Camila Side Effects

The risks of side effects are very low, but some women have experienced side effects when taking Norethindrone. Minor ones include irregular periods, acne, breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, breakthrough bleeding, cysts on your ovaries, and changes in sex drive (up or down). These side effects are most likely during the 1st few months and generally improve over time and should stop within a few months.

The chances of serious side effects from birth control pills are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented. Serious side effects include: sudden vision loss, severe headache, sudden heavy bleeding, lower abdominal pain, severe pelvic pain, liver problems (dark urine, jaundice), shortness of breath, fainting.

These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare. Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of these side effects.

Camila Warnings

Do NOT take this medication if:

  • You have or have had breast cancer
  • You have liver disease
  • You have unexplained uterine bleeding
  • You are taking medications for tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, or to control seizures
  • You are allergic to Norethindrone

We have licensed, birth control passionate doctors in every state we operate in. We also accept most forms of private insurance at Pandia Health.

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID WHILE TAKING  CAMILA?
