Camila is a Progesterone Only Pill (POP) (oral contraceptive pill, OCP, birth control medication, birth control pill). This hormonal birth control works to prevent pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucus which blocks the sperm from getting into the uterus and creating a fertilized egg and by thinning the uterine lining (endometrium) such that if the egg/sperm hook up, there’s nowhere to stick and grow. Camila can also be prescribed to treat menstrual disorders caused by hormonal imbalance or endometriosis. Read More
Camila birth control is super easy to use.
Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. You take a pill every day. Unlike many combined oral contraceptives there are no sugar/placebo pills (inactive pills) with Camila or other POPs (Progesterone Only Pills). It is important to know that this medication requires that you take them at the SAME TIME every day. This contraceptive method is not a good match for people who struggle with medication management.
If you are late by 3 hours, you will need emergency contraception (if you had unprotected heterosexual intercourse [sex] in the past 5 days) and to abstain from sex for the next 48 hrs to avoid unintended pregnancy. Remember that oral contraceptives cannot prevent STDs, always use a barrier method of protection such as condoms to prevent HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases.
Camila birth control pills have only one main active ingredient, Norethindrone [0.35 mg].
The risks of side effects are very low, but some women have experienced side effects when taking Norethindrone. Minor ones include irregular periods, acne, breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, breakthrough bleeding, cysts on your ovaries, and changes in sex drive (up or down). These side effects are most likely during the 1st few months and generally improve over time and should stop within a few months.
The chances of serious side effects from birth control pills are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented. Serious side effects include: sudden vision loss, severe headache, sudden heavy bleeding, lower abdominal pain, severe pelvic pain, liver problems (dark urine, jaundice), shortness of breath, fainting.
These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare. Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of these side effects.

Some women may experience weight gain when taking Camila and other birth control pills. While there’s a chance that the hormones can give you the munchies, it’s mostly water retention (and not actual fat).

Camila should be available at just about any pharmacy in your area. It does require a prescription from a doctor, though. If you’re hesitant to approach your doctor about Camila or simply prefer the privacy, convenience, and ease of the internet, give Pandia Health a try. We have licensed, birth control passionate doctors in every state we operate in. We also accept most forms of private insurance at Pandia Health.
As with any new prescription, you should go over anything you’re already taking with your healthcare provider or Pandia Health Care Advisor before starting on Camila, incase of drug interactions. This includes recreational drugs, over-the-counter meds, and even herbal supplements or other medicines. Even something that seems relatively harmless such as St. John’s wort can cause Camila to be less effective at preventing pregnancy. There are certain meds you should absolutely bring up. These are medications that treat seizures, aromatase inhibitors, cancer, HIV, and chronic hepatitis C medications.
If you choose to pay out-of-pocket, Camila is pretty affordable since it is a generic brand. The price for 1 pack is $27. You can save money as well by choosing any other Camila generics, such as Incassia, Nora-Be, Norethindrone, Norlyda, Deblitane, Heather for as low as $15/pack when ordering 3 packs at a time. Generics have the SAME active ingredients and dosage as the name brand. Watch our video explaining generics vs. brand birth control pills.
