What is Setlakin Birth Control Pills?

Setlakin is a combined oral contraceptive pill (cOCP, birth control medication, birth control pills) that prevents pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation), and thickening the cervical mucus, blocking sperm from getting into the uterus and getting to the egg. Setlakin is also prescribed to: treat acne, reduce the risk of ovarian cysts (as in polycystic ovarian syndrome [PCOS]), treat painful or heavy periods, and more. Read More

How to Use Setaklin

Setaklin is super easy to use.

Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. Many women find that taking Setlakin before bedtime or with your largest meal of the day helps reduce nausea and other side effects.

After taking 84 days of active pills, you’ll switch to 7 inactive pills. These are inactive pills with no hormones that are there to help you keep in the habit of taking your pill every day.

Setaklin Dosage

Setaklin birth control pills have 2 main active ingredients: Levonorgestrel 150 mcg (progesterone) and Ethinyl Estradiol 30 mcg (estrogen).

Benefits of Setaklin

Setaklin Side Effects

The risks are very low, but some women experience side effects when taking Setlakin.

Minor ones include breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, and slightly elevated blood pressure or blood sugar levels. Positive side effects are also a possibility, too — reduced acne, lighter bleeds, and fewer mood swings are fairly common.

The chances of serious side effects are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented, such as blood clots in the head (a severe new headache, causing double vision, or stroke), blood clots in the chest causing severe shortness of breath, blood clots in the abdomen (causing abdominal pain), blood clots in the leg causing leg swelling and pain.

These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare.

Frequently Asked Questions

WILL SETLAKIN CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN?

Some women worry about weight gain when taking Setlakin and other birth control pills. While it might give you the munchies, it’s mostly water retention (and not actual fat) that’s to blame.

ANY OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SETLAKIN?

As with any new prescription, you should go over anything you’re already taking with your doctor or Pandia Health Care Advisor before starting on Setlakin. This includes recreational drugs, over-the-counter meds, and even herbal supplements. Even something that seems relatively harmless such as St. John’s wort can cause Setlakin to be less effective at preventing pregnancy. There are certain meds you should absolutely bring up with your doctor. These are aromatase inhibitors, cancer, HIV, seizure, and chronic hepatitis C medications.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WITH SETLAKIN?

Pretty much every medication comes with a tiny risk of allergies, including Setlakin. The symptoms are usually mild and include rashes, itching, dizziness. If you experience trouble breathing or swollen lips, throat, or tongue, call 911.

Depending on your medical history, hormone-based birth control may not be for you. It’s important to discuss your medical history with your physician or one of our helpful Pandia Health Patient Care Advisors before you get started on Setlakin, especially if you’ve had health problems such as cancer, heart disease, blood clots, uncontrolled diabetes, or high blood pressure

HOW EASY IS IT TO GET SETLAKIN?

Setlakin should be available at just about any pharmacy in your area. It does require a prescription from a doctor, though. If you’re hesitant to approach your doctor about Setlakin or simply prefer the privacy, convenience, and ease of the internet, give Pandia Health a try. We have licensed, birth control passionate doctors in every state we operate in. We also accept most forms of private insurance at Pandia Health.

No insurance? No problem! We offer many payment options to fit your needs. If you choose to pay out-of-pocket, Setlakin is pretty affordable since it is a generic brand. You can save money as well by choosing any other Setlakin’s generics, such as Introvale, or Quasense.

DOES BIRTH CONTROL CAUSE INFERTILITY?

Some women worry that birth control pills like Setlakin can cause long-term fertility issues.

This isn’t true. If you want to have a baby soon, just stop the medication and you should return to full fertility within a cycle or two after stopping.
