What is Camrese Birth Control Pills?

Camrese is a combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP, birth control medication, birth control pills). Camrese works to prevent pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation), and thickening the cervical mucus, blocking sperm from getting into the uterus and getting to the egg. Camrese is also prescribed to: treat acne, reduce the risk of ovarian cysts (as in polycystic ovarian syndrome [PCOS]), treat painful or heavy periods and more. Read More

How to Use Camrese

Camrese is very easy to use!

Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. Most women find that taking Camrese before bedtime or with your largest meal of the day helps reduce nausea and other side effects. It is recommended to take your first active pill the first Sunday after your period begins.

After taking 84 days of active pills containing levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol, you’ll switch to 7 pills that just contain ethinyl estradiol.

If you do miss one active pill , take two pills as soon as you remember. Then, continue to take one active pill for the rest of the pill pack. If you miss two active pills in a row take two pills per day for two days. However, if you miss three active pills in a row, do not take the missed pills. Instead you should use back up birth control for at least 7 days. Note that you may experience some bleeding or spotting if you miss three pills in a row.

Remember that Camrese and other hormone based birth control cannot be used to prevent HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases. In order to prevent STDs, always use condoms when having sexual intercourse.

Camrese Dosage

Camrese birth control comes on a 84 tables of Levonorgestrel 1 mg (progesterone) and Ethinyl Estradiol 30 mcg (estrogen), and 7 tablets of 10mg of Ethinyl Estradiol (estrogen).

Benefits of Camrese

Camrese Side Effects

The risks are very low, but some women have experienced side effects when taking Camrese.

Minor ones include nausea, breast tenderness, headache, and slightly elevated blood pressure or blood sugar levels. Women who are breastfeeding should not take Camrese because it may decrease breast milk production.

The chances of serious side effects are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented, such as blood clots in the head (a severe new headache, causing double vision, or stroke), blood clots in the chest causing severe shortness of breath, blood clots in the abdomen (causing abdominal pain), blood clots in the leg causing leg swelling and pain.

These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare.

Frequently Asked Questions

WILL CAMRESE CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN?

Some women worry about weight gain when taking Camrese and other birth control pills. While it might give you the munchies, it’s mostly water retention (and not actual fat) that’s to blame.

ANY OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CAMRESE?

As with any new prescription, you should go over anything you’re already taking with your doctor or Pandia Health Care Advisor before starting on Camrese. This includes recreational drugs, over-the-counter meds, and even herbal supplements. Even something that seems relatively harmless such as St. John’s wort can cause Camrese to be less effective at preventing pregnancy. There are certain meds you should absolutely bring up with your doctor: aromatase inhibitors, cancer, HIV, seizure, and chronic hepatitis C medications.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WITH CAMRESE?

Pretty much every medication comes with a tiny risk of allergies, including Camrese. The symptoms are usually mild and include rashes, itching, dizziness. If you experience trouble breathing or swollen lips, throat, or tongue, call 911.

Depending on your medical history, hormone-based birth control may not be for you. It’s important to discuss your medical history with your physician or one of our helpful Pandia Health Patient Care Advisors before you get started on Camrese, especially if you’ve have health problems such as cancer, heart disease, liver disease, blood clots, uncontrolled diabetes, or high blood pressure.

HOW EASY IS IT TO GET CAMRESE?

DOES CAMRESE CAUSE INFERTILITY?

Some women worry that birth control pills like Camrese can cause long-term fertility issues.

This is NOT true. If you want to have a baby soon, just stop taking birth control pills and you should return to full fertility within a cycle or two after stopping.

DOES CAMRESE CAUSE ACNE?

All birth control pills have been shown to improve acne. However, some people respond differently than others. If Camrese does not work for you, then talk to your doctor or use Pandia Health’s expert birth control doctors.

WHAT ARE THE YELLOW PILLS IN CAMRESE?

Yellow pills in Camrese are the 7 tablets with no active ingredients that follow the 84 active tablets in each pack. People with uteri usually bleed on the 2nd or 3rd day of taking these pills. You can SKIP these placebo pills and go straight into the next pack if you want to make #PeriosdOptional. See our CEO/Founder’s TEDx talk on the bottom of this page.
